ICC Honors Program

Illinois Central College
Honors Program

Deadlines

The deadline for application to the Honors Program at Illinois Central College is April 1 for a Fall semester enrollment and November 1 for a Spring semester enrollment.

  • All application materials are due by the deadline. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Applicants are responsible for ensuring that all application materials are complete and forwarded to the Honors program coordinator by the deadline.
  • If an applicant misses the April 1 deadline for the Fall semester, or is not accepted into the program at that time, it is recommended they re-apply for the Spring semester.

Applications

Students new to Illinois Central College must complete two applications. The first is an application for Admission which is forwarded to the Admissions and Records office at ICC. The second is an application to the Honors Program which is forwarded directly to the coordinator of the program.

Personal Statements

All applicants are required to provide a personal statement explaining why they wish to be accepted into the program. The statements are read thoroughly in the review process, and it is important for students to carefully consider their personal statement. As with other materials, this should be forwarded directly to the Honors Program Coordinator.

Transcripts

Students applying to the Honors Program must submit two sets of transcripts. The first transcript is forwarded to the Admissions and Records office. The second transcript is forwarded directly to the Honors Porgram Coordinator. High School seniors applying in April for a fall enrollment should wait until first semester grades are posted prior to submitting their transcript to the Honors Program Coordinator. In addition, the transcript must indicate the ACT or SAT score(s) earned as well as the student’s current class rank and GPA based on a 4.0 scale.

Letter(s) of Recommendation

All applicants are required to submit at least one letter of recommendation. Applicants should ask people who can provide a strong academic recommendation. Teachers provide excellent recommendations because they have actual knowledge of a student in an academic environment. High school advisors and counselors are less preferred because, while they may have some sense of a student’s overall performance, many do not have actual knowledge of a student in a classroom environment. Last, people outside of academics are least preferred as they have little understanding of the student’s actual academic work.

When possible, students are encouraged to submit more than one letter of recommendation.

Federal Student Financial Aid (FAFSA)

Honors program participants are required to complete the FAFSA by April 1 of each year. While students will not be rejected from the Honors Program for not filling out the FAFSA, they cannot receive the tuition waiver until they complete and submit the form.

Listing of Activities, Awards and Honors

We review and assess the list of activities, awards and honors submitted by students. Please list all activities and the years the student participated. For example, choir – 1,2,3,4, volleyball – 1,2, yearbook staff – senior, Peoria Journal Star Art Contest Winner – junior, all-conference team selection – senior, etc.

Activities, awards and honors are not limited to school-related activities. This is not a time to be humble. List all the activities, awards and honors earned during the last 4 years! The more information students can provide the better.
